You may not have seen this done at home because it is usually performed in construction work. As years pass, a surface would usually require further polishing; this is what we call restoration.
The polishing of the floor is usually the first stage – it’s the first thing that is done to the floor after it has been placed.
When the flooring is initially placed by the builder, the surface is always slightly uneven. It is very difficult to place a floor with a completely even surface. In addition, the majority of materials used to place a floor are raw materials i.e. unpolished.

The polish will be the basis on which all treatments are applied. This would be the opportune moment to cover and fill imperfections that occur as a result of the wear and tear between the slabs. Following this, we then carry out several layers of refining. The more refined the polish, the better the final finish.
This work is performed with heavy, water-based machinery that cools abrasive elements which produce a kind of sanding material. The same sequence of work is not always followed i.e. the professional may choose to follow a different sequence and apply differing treatments depending on the material used for the best outcome.
It is uncomfortable work, therefore it is much easier to work in empty spaces free of furniture.
Reforms are usually the perfect time to carry out this type of work.
